Telepsychiatry provides psychiatric and behavioral health care through virtual appointments rather than in-person visits. It may be appropriate for children, adolescents, and adults who need mental health support but prefer or require appointments from home or another appropriate private setting, including eligible clients located throughout Maryland. Virtual care can be used for psychiatric discussions, clinical follow-up, and other behavioral health services when telehealth is clinically appropriate.
How It Works
During a telepsychiatry appointment, clients can receive behavioral health care through a secure virtual setting, including:
- Virtual discussion of mental health, emotional, and behavioral concerns
- Psychiatric evaluation and assessment when clinically appropriate
- Review of current symptoms and changes affecting daily functioning
- Discussion of treatment options, including medication-related care or psychotherapy when appropriate
- Ongoing psychiatric and behavioral health follow-up through virtual appointments
What to Expect
Clients participate in appointments from home or another appropriate private location within Maryland, using the available telehealth format. During the visit, the provider discusses the concerns presented, reviews relevant clinical information, and provides care appropriate to the individual’s circumstances. Follow-up appointments may be used to review changes in symptoms and continue or adjust care when clinically appropriate.
